Almost every scene in the film had to be shot in two separate sessions. Firstly before the characters Jan and Russell had any SFX makeup of cuts and bruises on, and again afterwards with the SFX applied. This allowed the cuts and bruises that periodically show up on their faces and seemingly disappear mid way through scenes to reflect the characters 'emotional damage' levels.
The shot of the building works and digger were not originally planned for the film. On the day of the shoot there were heavy building works happening just outside the filming location and were causing considerable noise. It was decided that rather then ignore the fact that building works were happening and hope for moments of quiet in order to shoot, it would be easier to film shots of the building works happening and acknowledge them as part of the film.
