The history of the ghost is based on an actual event that happened on May 1, 1937. A despondent woman suffering from financial distress named Myrtle Ward decided to commit suicide by throwing herself off the Colorado Street Bridge. She also threw her 3 year old daughter over the side, but she fell into the branches of a tree a miraculously survived with only minor injuries.

The bridge mentioned in this episode is the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena, CA and was constructed in 1913. Because it is over 150 feet, high many people have chosen it as a place to commit suicide. It became known as the suicide bridge because of over 100+ confirmed suicides.
