Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors (2018) Online

This is a surprisingly decent film. I'm equally surprised by the number of downvotes here. What, not enough sex, language and gore for the mainstream? Or were some folks totally unaware they were dialing into a cartoon-based movie?

This has a good story, good characters, an actual lesson, and was an enjoyable watch. Yes parts of it jumped the shark a bit; welcome to the realm of super-heroes. That tends to happen a lot in this field.

After the recent plethora of cringe-worthy superhero movies full of ultra-violence and character assassination (Batman, Superman, X-Men, etc etc) it was refreshing to watch a film that brought this genre back to its basic values: ordinary people that suddenly have power and aren't sure what to do with it.

The storyline never slumps. It's never "totally ridiculous". Basic plot holds up. The individual characters are actually well-formed and thought out. I would have liked to see Squirrel Girl given a little more "awesome" (since she at one time managed to take out THANOS) but she's just getting started in this one.

The writers very well got the ideas across of: Don't abuse your powers just because you can... don't judge a book by its cover... don't judge too hastily... give people a chance to redeem themselves. I'll take that kind of content over hyper-action and violence any day. Not that there wasn't plenty of action and violence in this; it was just subdued compared to the general media these days.

I am not a big fan of "Saturday morning cartoon" type fare. But this one did well enough to earn a solid 6 stars in my book (would have been 7 if the animation had been a bit better). Well worth the watch, and a good morality flick. Brought back the days when comics were less gratuitous, less violent, and had far better stories. Overall I think a decent effort.

I'm showing my age here, but I'm also coming from a long history of loving Marvel toons. Synthetic music with digital instruments gives me headaches. It's so much commercialized content that 'Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors' becomes a perverbial shaking of the keys in front of a baby's face. It's flashy bright colors set to excess noise; if this were Japan you'd expect to read about the hundreds of cases of children going into seizures (Much like California's theater warning for 'The Incredibles 2'). It was as uncomfortable to watch as a ShamWow commercial, "HEY I'M YELLING REALLY LOUDLY SO YOU'LL LOOK UP AT THE TV!!!"

Secondly, just at a glimpse I couldn't help but notice the body transformation of Squirrel Girl. What was the point of giving her birthing hips? The Squirrel Girl I remember had a tiny frame which gave her action scenes against bigger villains a lop-sided battle that you couldn't help but cheer for her to win. People tend to root for the underdog, not the guy big enough to lift grown men off their feet. It came across like she was the bully in at least one scenario.

There wasn't much of a story here. It's basically hero-worship of older Marvel characters and living up to be just like them. It takes away from the individuality of the new characters origin stories. I saw this as one long movie edited from the shorts that wemade available. Maybe the idea was to get all of this information in small doses? I don't know. My experience was tiring. I didn't finish watching because there wasn't much there for me to care about. No mystery, no central element, and all commercial.

Apparently Secret Warriors is now a thing and likely to spawn a spew of new movies and a television series. Essentially it's Marvels answer to Teen Titans and I'm not impressed.

To be fair I'm not exactly the demographic, but it's not who you'd expect either.

The main problem is that it's so kiddish, and as Marvel/Superheroes have evolved so far and gone beyond Saturday morning cartoons I feel this is a step backwards. It doesn't need to be R rated, but a happy medium would have made considerably more sense.

Here we see the most modern version of Ms.Marvel teaming with Squirrel Girl to take on the bad guys and form the titular team. The animation is lazy, the plot is generic and it's all so damn childish.

To its credit it is bringing some lesser to known characters into the spotlight and pushing Captain Marvel further in as she'll be an integral part of the MCU. Also the voice talent though not great is at least consistent as we have several people playing characters they've played before such as Agent of Shields own Chloe Bennet playing Quake again.

I see what they're doing here, I just don't think they've done it very well. It's full of moral messages and that's great, it has it's heart in the right place. But as a franchise? I'm unimpressed.

Squirrel Girl is approximately 50% adorable and 50% annoying

I am most certainly biased, coming from the excellent Ms Marvel and Squirrel Girl comics. But I found an interesting movie about passioned heroes wanting to do their best. Sometimes I don't need more than that. With all the universe ending drama llamas going on, sometimes I just want to see a Squirrel, a Girl and a Squirrel girl do some awesome heroics and inspire a team of new heroes. This movie is not that well animated though so if that will bother you just count my rating a couple of steps lower. I tolerate more in a movie that makes me feel good afterwards.

Pro-:kamala khan stuff is solid cons-:1) how are inhumans different than xmen 2)voice acting is mixed but mostly bad 2.1)kamala khan's mom sounds likes 1960's not early 2000's in accent 2.2) squirrel girls voice acting is annoying 3)animation is neither distinct or memorable 4)story is a mess and keeps trowing terms 5)teenager's dialog is terrible and written by someone in there 40's

Squirrel Girl.. !!! Yeah.. I wonder why Squirrel Girl was not in "Avengers: Infinity War" ?!? Please Animated Marvel.. bury Squirrel Girl where you found her.. and Ms. Marvel too.. !!! Super Heroes with powers.. yes.. but that's too much !!! Don't make a joke of the (Animated) Marvel Universe.. !!! I wonder how it would be if Squirrel Girl had to fight Thanos.. what an epic fight that would be.. NOT !!!

When I first saw the promo for this film airing on the Disney Channel, I was excited. It seemed to have a fresh perspective on the young heroes trope, and overall looked decent. I watched this film recently on Disney XD and from what I've seen, it was quite underwhelming. The story, tone, and pacing weren't too bad, the show kind of looks fine, and the overall feel is somewhat refreshing. The problem? The characters are a bit dull and leave little impact and the story of a young team fighting for justice just feels rehashed and done before. It's almost like Disney/Marvel's take on Teen Titans or Young Justice, but not in a refreshing, unique way, more like in a paint-by-the-numbers, rehash, seen-there-been-there kind of way. While I don't think this film is the absolute worst nor amongst the worst of Marvel, it certainly wasn't one I liked. I wanted to like this movie, but all the way I felt myself yawning and pretty disappointed. I wanted to see more of Spider Gwen like how we did in Marvel Rising: Initiation, a predecessor to this film. However, this film isn't the best, but it isn't completely terrible, it's just a rehashed, average film that's been done before and in better ways. I really wanted to like this one, but by trying to be too much at once, and not adding its own spin on a trope that's been done so many times before, it becomes a below-average experience to watch. I do applaud the team for changing up the art style a bit and giving us something to work with, however, it still gets a score of 5.6/10 (average). It looks like a promising Marvel film, but turns out to be yet another average TV film from Disney and Marvel Entertainment.

I believe you can do better than this Disney/Marvel. I still have faith in you.

It's not that they have a problem with synthesized music or a reusing of the theme song, although I do, admittedly. Heck, I don't even mind messages not so subtly hidden within a movie's script, especially when that movie is mainly targeted to younger kids anyway. My problem is that the movie was marketed on the promise of one thing and ultimately didn't even try to deliver on that. The writing and acting that was present in the Marvel Rising: Initiation short seems to have taken a huge step backwards. Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider is nowhere to be found and won't even appear until the sequel next year, which makes one wonder at her inclusion in so much of the advertising. Leaving her absence out of it, though, the movie still suffers from less-than-great writing, a few audio sync issues, and characters who don't really develop, even when they do. Spider-Gwen deserves better for her Disney XD premiere.

It's alright. Not great. Not terrible. The animation wasn't horrible, but definitely lacking in diverse facial expressions. There were little things I like about it, like America's stars and how Kamala's body shifts. For the most part, the action scenes range from boring to bad, which is never good in an action movie, but it's not the worst thing in the world. And as much as I love the characters in other media they're in, they felt more like watered down versions of their counterparts. While Squirrel Girl's voice was annoying, she was still probably the most entertaining character (what can I say, I'm a sucker for the outgoing loudmouths). Daisy was just plain dull and honestly very weak and felt shoehorned into the leader role (Kamala definitely took on the role of leader in this one) I was pleasantly surprised by Lockjaw. the voice acting was bland overall, but that's often the problem with casting non-VAs in VA roles. Ending was very, very anticlimactic. All in all, an okay TV/direct-to-DVD movitt hat I'm glad I watched but will probably not watch again.

The movie is fun, charming and silly but it's weakn is just introducing a handful of characters in an 80 minute movie. It would've been a lot better as a TV show than a full length movie. But nonetheless, I enjoyed a lot.

I remember seeing the ad in a comic and saying to myself, "Wow that art is insultingly bad," thinking it was something for YouTube, to later learn it was coming to Disney. I thought maybe its too young for me, so I decided to watch it with my 8 year old brother. After we watched it's bland plot, it's cringy characters, and listening to it's weak stance on bullying. We both did not enjoy watching heroes rise. This was honestly the worst super hero mash up I've ever seen. Who thought any of these characters were a good idea?!

Fantastic fun film, with a lot of lesser known but fan favourite characters, all of whom are portrayed really well here, the story is interesting and the characters all work, but the moral message of "be yourself" is not exactly subtle, and the animation isn't anything spectacular. That being said, I'm so SO glad to see Squirrel Girl, and a certain 4 legged mushface on screen! Please make this a series!

Look. I don't have issue with LGBT and racial representation in media. But it felt like it was the only thing it relied on. The animation initially looked okay, but the movements are very stiff and action scenes look very slow. The art style is really good but animation itself is lacking. the effects and character actions make no sense. a graze from a fire blast burns off Squirrel Girl's tail fur, but a full blast from it somehow does nothing to her. SHIELD agents appears to take control of the incident, unnecessarily gives info to the protagonists, and goes away without making sure they don't interfere with their investigation. And that's just from the first 15 minutes of the film. Also you don't get any information about the characters, like how Ms. Marvel has powers, why she's not popular at school, or how she knows Squirrel Girl, nada. It's not like they're well known characters, even a brief explanation would have been helpful. I think it had potential, but as most media trying to promote political ideology, it didn't work.

Wow, I couldn't even finish it, it's so bad. So there's only 1 boy in the Marvel Universe? Yes, it's an almost all girls show. Zero characterization. Ms Marvel and others lack anything that makes them really special. (She feels like a propaganda piece the way she keeps popping up even though she's not all that popular.) The plot is dopey. And this is their big Marvel animated movie? It was awful! Fun for very young girls, maybe, but they just targeted a small portion of their audience with this one. Utter rubbish, in the end.

I'll tell you whats not a secret. This show is terrible and is used as another failed attempt by marvel/disney to try and sell captain marvel as their flagship hero because they are frothingly desperate to have a wonder woman status type female character.

This movie may be good for keeping a little kid quiet for an hour and a half, but that's it. The animation is awkward, the characters are underdeveloped, bland, and in the case of Squirrel Girl, extremely annoying. The villain is nothing that you haven't seen a million times before, and the films moral of "being true to/ trusting yourself" is just hammered in with no subtlety whatsoever, especially in the last ten minutes. It teases a possible sequel at the end, but I hope that never happens. It's not the worst, and I think if you have young kids they'll enjoy it, but for older Marvel fans, this is one to stay far away from.

I write review about this movie and now they just delete it, but I have no hate speech in it. So apparently we can have comments in which someone "seen" movie about America Chaves with 4 "kids" (why not 44?), but not a real one from who really seen it. Okay. What I else can expect in Secret SJ Warriors review section. But anyway, Disney and all supporters - this film not for kids and you can delete and buy so much reviews as you want - parents anyway always know what is better for their kids.

The premiere was very good, if you're a marvel fan you will love it. Lots of familiar charectors along with several new likeable ones aswell. I highly recommend it.

After the latest Spiderman animated series and other animated adaptations falling flat with lack of personal character struggle outside the superhero identity it's nice to see child relatable characters who develop both as heroes and as individuals with struggles of friendship and understanding.

Its being rated down for being progressive- a character is mentioned to have been raised by an LGBT couple, cultural diversity with characters coming from different cultural backgrounds, acceptance struggles, wrongful character judgement- It's a good movie to watch, for kids especially!

The script is a little rushed and Spider-woman is not in this movie which people were expecting but the potential this show/movie has is great for children to watch

Really loved this film and the new heroes. The dialog was spot on - It was deep and meaningful when it needed to be and funny at the right moments. I liked the animation and the art style. It is good for watching with the family. About the cultural and social depictions in the film, characters are culturally diverse and the film portrayed different cultures and social situations with respect. Overall, a good lighthearted film with entertaining action. Also, Squirrel girl is a cool character and also funny made me laugh a lot.

So, here we have the big, epic for the Marvel Rising franchise, "Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors". How does it hold up? Let's talk about. The movie starts with Kamala and Doreen hanging out in the park when they come across someone named Victor chasing Dante, who's been wreaking havoc with his fire powers. It turns out that this is the latest in a line of Inhuman related collateral damage when the Terogen wave hit. As they try to investigate what's going on, Kamala ends up being abducted and sent to outer space by Hala the Kree accuser, and now Doreen must rescue her alongside Daisy Johnson, Patriot, Dante, America Chavez, and Captain Marvel.

The unifying theme for the movie is about rising above adversity and unlocking your potential to be a true hero no matter what. Given how this is a character driven movie, let's talk about individual characters and various dynamics explored.

1. Let's start with Kamala Khan and Doreen Green, aka Miss Marvel and Squirrel Girl. One of the major plot points of the movie is about their friendship, the conflicts they face, and how they're different yet similar. Miss Marvel is established to be a very wholesome person, someone who wants to see the best in others and do what she can to reach out to those in need. She does have her own personal baggage though, such as how she's seen as an awkward geek, how her mother is overly critical of her to be a success, and is seen someone of lesser worth due to her status as an Inhuman. Doreen is very different. She's shown as being too devoted to the heroic cause to the point of being impulsive and quick to judge anyone who acts too much out of the ordinary. She even accidentally uses the Inhuman slur against Kamala. Wow! What makes their dynamic work is the intention. Kamala likes seeing the best in others, but focuses too much on reaching out primarily through heart. Doreen is impulsive, but you can tell it's just for a defense since she has the heart of a hero, but acts more on gut instinct. It also helps that they do regret fighting with each other after the abduction.

2. Now I will talk about Daisy Johnson and Rayshaun Lucas, aka Quake and Patriot. Both are seen as just wanting to be special, but both go about it in different ways. It turns out that Daisy has powers of her own, and she's been hiding them from Patriot since she wants to be respected as an agent of SHIELD. Patriot wants to be seen as his own hero without being compared to Captain America, who's much older and wiser and calmer. What really helps sell their dynamic is the sense of vulnerability. Daisy is shown as very strict with what she does to the point of snappishness , yet also able to show compassion when she senses something isn't right. Patriot has the same moral values as his idol, but with more of a willingness to push forward and defy authority when given the chance.

3. Now let's talk about Dante. He was once just a normal person, until the Terogen wave gave him fire powers, and he accidentally burned his parents' house down, and eventually them. He's shown as hot headed and impulsive due to not wanting to be seen as a freak. That's pretty sad. What helps his case is that he's simply acting out of desperation, and at least tries minimal using collateral damage.

4. Let's look at America Chavez. She's hot headed and no nonsense, generally wanting to be left alone and literally flying away when she feels like it. However, her backstory is tragic. She looked up to her two mothers as heroes, but was heartbroken when they sacrificed themselves to save her when their planet was being destroyed. Another wow! It also helps that, though not as determined to stop collateral damage, at least just wants make sure others are safe.

5. Though she only appears for about 20 minutes, Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, stands out. Kamala looks up to her due to her cool head and ability to act on the fly. Even with her slight cockiness, this holds water since she's commanding yet also knows how to let others work in their own.

Now let's talk about our villains, Victor/Exile and Hala. Victor sees Inhumans as rather scummy even though he himself is an Inhuman, and thinks of humanity in general as a subspecies. He also initially passes him as a nice guy before revealing his true colors. However, he sees Hala as a type of mother figure, and just wants to please her. That's pretty sad. As for Hala herself, she manages to be dangerous, yet also rather complex. She kidnaps Inhumans to be part of her army in order to unlock their true potential as heroes given how humans see them as second rate. That's pretty deep. You can see this in action when she chastises Victor for failing her.

Now let's talk about the ending. Victor rejects redemption, but is still a conflicting figure, while Hala is thrown out the air lock. Kamala manages to work with everyone to free the Inhumans and save them from perishing. They, under Captain Marvel's advice, then decide to form their own team, the titular Secret Warriors.

This movie has everything you can ask for: interesting and likable characters, sleek action, witty humor, and a very thought provoking message. I look forward to see what's in store.

So my little brother age 8 Likes Marvel more then do something to do with Superman being the worst thing ever but I digress, so I was surprised when this popped up out of no Disney XD, we sat down and watched on the DVR, got to say it was not bad my brother it was about someone young other than Spider man saving the day. Me I was just happy to Squirrel Girl not just pop up as some small part in a Spider man Cartoon.

now to the downside, I could sit here and judge the movie on thick Sg or say that it felt rushed at the end, but the truth is it was not made for adults like me, I give it this 9 because of the smile it put on my brothers face as he watched them saved the day from the bad guys.

Once again this demonstrates marvel studio hacks getting hold of characters, good ideas and destroying them. Marvel once again shows that DC Animated is far superior in it's tales, character portrayals, and it's action sequences. Even when it's doing daft episodes.

If this movie was aimed at 5 year olds or younger, I could accept it and leave it alone. Unfortunately it's not. It's going to be watched by fans of the subject matter. The actors do a good job with the horrific script and dialogue they have to work with.

The problem is that the comedy is too slap-stick for making the characters likeable or realistic. These are meant to be late teens early twenty characters not 9 - 12 year old characters. They all come off as characters from "clueless", not real people.

I loved it, it was very inspiring, very good representation, girl power, and very good motivations. I was just watching this for fun but I realized it was really good and that it was a movie I thought it was a Tv show????. I'm part from Pakistan so I liked the representation there and I always support diversity, and the story for the characters are nice. At the end I'd watch it with your family or by yourself on the computer it's a nice little movie.

My sons, my husband, and I all loved this. Super inclusive and progressive, tied to some of the canon, and it's a decently written KIDS SHOW. So it's great. Plus, Daisy Johnson!
