Invasion Online

I'm not sure what show Charles Hall was watching but it wasn't Invasion. This is purely eerie, original television. Each twist and turn of the plot takes you to places you weren't expecting but are eager to follow. The writing, acting and entire production are first-rate and refreshing. The reviews out there (including magazines such as Entertainment Weekly) agree with me. The problem with this show isn't the show, its cast, crew or anything other than the network. The "powers that be" at the network have done an abysmal job promoting it and keep yanking it from the line-up every time it gets momentum going. So just as fans are getting into the story and are anticipating the next week, they are disappointed with either a rerun or another show that they did not want to see. ABC needs to give the show a real chance. If they did, they would be pleasantly surprised at the audience it would build.

'Invasion' is not a traditional sci-fi show with aliens, monsters and lazer guns. It is a drama of two families, built on top of an allegoric plot, that of bad (and good) parenting. You can completely replace the "alien" part of the show with a "disease" and still make sense out of it.

Truth told, Invasion is not well received by all viewers, mostly because viewers expect to really "get" Invasion just by watching a few episodes here and there. Big mistake. To truly understand and enjoy the show, you have to sit down week after week and watch all episodes in order. Failure to do so will result in confusion on the viewer's part.

Another problem with the show --which is now fixed-- is that the first 5-6 episodes that were setting up the huge storyline arc, were slow. Viewers were driven off Invasion because of that (even myself at some early point I had to push myself to sit down and watch it), but thankfully, the pace is now much faster and Invasion starts getting back that viewership. Especially after episode 9, the show has been captivating and keeps the viewer at the edge of his/her seat. Really!

Fichtner is doing an excellent job as the creepy sheriff who is both good and bad. Sheriff's assistant, Deputy Lewis Sirk (played by ultra-convincing Nathan Baesel), has emerged as a great character too in the later episodes. The rest of the cast delivers pretty well too.

I'm mad!! ABC please rethink this dumb move to cancel Invasion. It is one of the most clever, cool and mysterious shows on right now. I wonder why the massive Lost fans hasn't taken on Invasion , heck it comes on right after Lost on Weds nights. I i'm guessing it was losing out to CSI NY or Law Order but I don't think thats much competition anyway. I don't know what it is with sci-fi shows and their relatively short life on network TV. At the very least this show would work excellently on the Sc-Fi network on cable & satellite. Please, some one start a website and demand more INVASION!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its weird how nearly all the sci-fi shows that came on last fall are all gone. Surface, the show that was on CBS and now Invasion. ABC needs to give Invasion more time. It has a nice cast led by Fitchner.

We LOVE this show!!! It's different, very interesting and very suspenseful!!! That one hour goes by too quickly! However, we have just been informed (by a cast member, who will remain anonymous) that this show has NOT been picked up for the new Fall Season 2006-2007. I am so tired of Network 'Execs' (virtual dumb heads) deciding to take off a great show due to what they perceive to be 'low ratings' without taking a really good look at the number of people who watch. No one polled me! I am one who loves the Sci Fi and fantasy shows. I am so tired of all the cloned sitcoms and spin offs of things like Law and Order (how many clones are there of that one?). It is especially irritating when they yank a show that many of us really love, without at least giving it a grand finale! Invasion is a really interesting show. Okay, the first season got a bit lame here and there, but the writers and creative staff needed some time to build a good storyline and character development for shows that are complicated. I just watched what was supposed to be the 2nd Season Finale. It turns out that it may be the Series Finale. Way too premature! The characters and plot were just starting to get really interesting. We also have lost Surface - which also gained so many possibilities from the 'season finale'. Dang it all! I want to know if Larkin and her baby became hybrids or perhaps the alien just healed them and put them back on shore!

My favorite shows are Charmed, Lost, Invasion, Surface, Ghost Whisperer (thought I detest Jennifer Love-Hewitt as an actress), Supernatural etc. Those are the shows I love because they are fantasy and NOT 6 O-Clock Newsy or stupid-don't-think-sitcoms. We have way too many 'Reality Shows'; cop n robber shows; animated and live sitcoms etc. We need fantasy shows that give us that escapist thrill to think! I am at the point now where I may just refuse to watch ANY TV and go back to the good ole book reading. I'm done with network politics! How do such self-serving idiots get to control the airwaves?

What's not to like about this show? It has everything you could want. Mystery, intrigue, wonderment, family drama. Not to mention this show is well written, well acted, well directed and produced. It gives you just enough to leave you begging for more every week (too bad the network doesn't realize that!). The characters are well fleshed out, the scenery and set designs are wonderful and the special effects are awesome. Anyone who "gave up" on this show because of a slow pace in the beginning, should definitely come back. The show is moving at a lightning pace and there's nothing better on TV! A lot of credit goes to the superb cast led by the wonderful William Fichtner as Tom Underlay. With only a few episodes left to air, we still don't know if he's good or bad. Kudos also to Kari Matchett who plays Mariel, she is a very true-to-life character and Matchett plays her conflicting emotions wonderfully. I'd also like to acknowledge a new actor who has totally enthralled me...Nathan Baesel. His portrayal of Deputy Lewis Sirk has been wonderfully engaging and I find myself looking forward to seeing more of him.

I am so disappointed about the cancellation of Invasion. I really think another network should reconsider picking it up. I understand that the production costs are significant, but they could be compromised without affecting the plot & script. I really didn't care about actually "seeing" the orange lights or any of the other fancy sci-fi stuff. I am much more interested in the plot and characters. The relationships are so complex,as is each individual character. As a viewer, I am sometimes conflicted as to who to "root" for, and I think that's excellent! This show really should have been given a better time-slot. A lot of people don't watch TV past 10:00, and especially right after Lost (which keeps you thinking about their show long after the credits are rolling. How can you commit to a completely different story when your mind is still reeling?) Even now, with Fitchner having joined the cast of Lost (at least that's what I hear), I still think it's worth another network's while to pick up Invasion where it left of, reduce the production costs, and write off "Tom" (Fitchner). After all, we last saw him at the ocean with an unconscious Larkin in his arms. It would be easy for Russell to kill him for that, even though intentions were good. BRING BACK INVASION!!

After watching the pilot for this new show I have come to the conclusion that it is at least worth a look. The show has a good and almost intellectual pilot episode that is sure to lead to some pretty good twists and excitement. The acting was not top notch but suited the supernatural surrealistic feel the show was giving off. The settings were realistic and gave the feeling that you were actually there, while the thunderstorm sequence also worked really well.

The pace of the show held really well considering the fact, of controversy or just conflict, the show was a real doozy. A lot may have seemed to be given away in the teasers you see on TV, but don't let those fool you. The show actually has taken a completely different turn on the first episode, leaving me wanting to know more.

I say this show is off to a good start, and I sure can't wait to see what is in store for these likable, often moot characters.

I LOVE this show. I make sure I am home every Wednesday night to watch Invasion. Shaun Cassidy, you amaze me how you created such a adventurous, sitting on the edge of the seat, and fun show. All the writers, I applaud you. I myself am a new actress of 5 years in the Entertainment Industry. I try to watch a lot of shows for this is my "business" but then become selective with my time after discovering those TV shows I like. Well, Invasion, at first I thought oy vay! Gonna be silly and maybe a lot like "alien" shows in the past. But to me it is not. I cant wait to find out.....WHAT IS IN THE WATER? The main cast members are dynamic. And the actor who plays Russel is so believable. The actor who plays the Sheriff......he kind of spooks me! lol Last nights episode kept me on "the edge of my seat". I am glad you are dealing more with what is in the water now. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! L Berger

I was so disappointed to hear that this show was canceled. There seemed to be so much to come. I thought the actors were wonderful and they kept us guessing from week to week. It was i admit a little slow moving to start with but it was worth the wait when it started to fall in to place. I agree with the previous comments that if you don't have patience this is not the show for you. If anyone knows of a way to save this show please let me know, i will do what i can to bring this back. I thought this was something unique, that might just survive. But, i remember another Shawn Cassidy show i loved a lot also that didn't make it. American Gothic was one of my favorite shows ever and it didn't last either, i think maybe that shows that are just a little off don't make it in the mainstream. They like to pretend it will aka Twin Peaks but even that did't last. It has to be just like every other show to make it. Unfortunately that means this probably won't return. that makes me sad....

Bloody ABC should be SHOT for canning it.

I have to agree with Daniel "This Show Rocks" It's been a long time since a show has got me hooked, and this one has. If you like X-files, watch it. If you like good writing, watch it. Picture M.Night's writing, but in a TV series. I think they did a great job with this show. No cheesy special effects. Great story line. Every episode I've seen gets better and better. With all the actors maturing & blending into their parts, the show gets better every episode. Great casting, great writing, special effects, music, and filmography.

I am very happy to see that I am not the only one angry that Invasion will not be on anymore. The season finale was so good and now we get nothing. I couldn't wait for the next season to start. Then I found out it will not be on next season. I was so very disappointed. This is a wonderful show. I looked forward to watching it every single week. I worked on Wednesdays, but lucky for me I had a TV there and as soon as I got there I would turn it on. My coworkers even started watching it. I loved all of the actors. An excellent job by all of them. I sure will be buying the DVD of this show. It would be nice there were some extra episodes. Just to leave everyone hanging after the season finale is terrible. This is a huge mistake canceling Invasion.

I couldn't believe it when I read that this well done, exciting TV show was not coming back in the fall. A friend said it had not been "canceled," but wouldn't start in Sept. I must agree with other reviewers when they talk about the lack of vision and sense of the network execs.when deciding the fate of excellent shows. Invasion had very little press by the network compared to others (Housewives, etc).Even critics loved this show, but the network didn't play it up in advertising.

It seems their answer to a show not doing well in the ratings is to put it up against one that is well established...a sure fire death knoll for many. One major thing the network did wrong was to take it off the air mid season (for whatever reason) long enough for viewers to go somewhere else rather than watch the lame substitutes they DID air in that time slot. Some of us HATE so-called reality shows and are looking for well written fiction...drama, comedy, sci-fi, romance....

We're looking for quality stories and superb acting. Watching people make fools of themselves for money and their 15 minutes of fame is only food for the mindless, not quality TV.

Invasion is entertaining and the characters are well developed. This past season was the best...it was going somewhere, and, darn it, I want to see where Cassidy is taking us!! If they are looking for a night to run it, there are several nights during the week void of good programing. Keep it away from the "new show spoilers" and advertise, advertise, advertise. With the right promotions and some faith in Mr. Cassidy's abilities, this could be a great boon for the network. In case it's lost on anyone, I find Invasion one of the best sci-fi offerings to come along on television in a long time.

I don't know about you, but it has been a long dry spell since we have had the pleasure of viewing a good Sci-fi series since "Earth 2" and X-Files. Sadly shows like this come few and far between. "Invasion" grips you from the very first episode and draws you in. The story line moves along quickly and nearly every episode has you on the edge of your seat. In fact, I wouldn't recommend watching this alone; the creepiness factor is reminiscent of the X files. The location lends to the eeriness, and this show may have the same effect of keeping people out of the water as "Jaws" did. The acting is top notch with a well rounded cast; and the story line is plausible. I can hardly wait for each episode to air. Well Done !!!

Truly one of the best new sci-fi shows that i have seen ! the stunning Kari Matchett excels as Dr. Mariel Underlay, accompanied by Eddie Cibrian (Jimmy Doherty from Third watch) in a gr8 role and William Fichtner (who at last gets a role that does him justice as Sheriff Tom Underlay)..

the plot moves a little bit slowly in the first few episodes but then gets a boost that keeps you on the edge of your sit ! i was surprised that the first comment dealt only with that fact(which is only half true and only relevant to the first few episodes, and is nothing like Carnivàle !!)

I really hope Invasion is here to stay as it is a great show in a swamp of mediocre TV shows and reality leftover sequel shows...

As a looong time fan of Sci-Fi myself, I think this show is really well done. It is a mind-game, and if you can't follow along, just don't watch. You cannot expect show like this one to give away all it's secrets right from the start, Surface hasn't, if you think you know everything already you don't. That's the point, to keep us hooked from week to week, and Invasion has managed to do that with me and my daughter, who are very hard to please Sci-Fi fans. This show's plot is not meant to be revealed in the first two airings, it's a long complicated process, and those who don't have the patience and can't enjoy a truly enjoyable edge of your seat show shouldn't put it down, just stop watching it, and be quiet!

Brilliant TV with excellent acting and great writing. Makes Lost look really lost. Why did it not get the ratings - in the wrong place at the wrong time probably. Every episode gives you just enough info on all of the various plots, human drama and sci-fi, so you do not feel cheated or let down and look forward to the next episode. The acting was believable at all times and you became really engaged with the different characters. The number of twists in the sheriffs character is brilliantly done. Although a second series is not planned (at the moment who knows what may happen!) it still stands as a great piece of TV and it did not surprise me that it came from the same producer as Amercian Gothic, another great series that did not get completed due to monetary considerations.

i do not understand why they don't keep this show i don't like any other alien type shows. i personally never watched ABC i found this show by mistake after season 1 was over for like a year now and then i look for the air date online for season 2 and i find its been canceled. u know over the 2 days i watched every episode of it in order i had it downloaded. since first episode it was me ray Chris and Matt watching first episode was sorta boring and the show seems too alien like for my taste but i kept watching cause i finished all episodes of fresh prince and psych and monk and everything else and world of war-craft was down. so we watched like 3 more episodes and by that time none of my other shows or games were in our minds we must see what happens in next episode. that is the most amazing show i ever watched. i am usually into funny shows but man i love a good show like this every once in awhile this has so much story and twists. i will be so mad if they do not keep it.it was truly amazing it was me and 3 others watching at all times and after the first say 10 episodes we had a group of 9 pl sitting in watching it yet it was 12 30 at night so we decided to call it a night me and 3 others came back tomorrow morning and finished it without the others :D i love this show.

I missed the first episode, but have been watching since and find the show quite interesting. The characters aren't the greatest in history, but they are good and I find that I'm trying to figure out what they will do next. Without giving too much away, I'm very curious to see if the sheriff is a bad guy or not....it's still too early to tell what he is up to. Personally, I can't wait to find out. I'm a big fan of horror and sci-fi and it's been a long while since I've seen a show that has captured my attention, probably since about the 6th season of XFiles (the rest were garbage). I even stay up till the show comes on just to make sure my TIVO gets the correct channel.

When a hurricane hits the Floridian town of Homestead, mysterious lights fall out of the sky and into the swamps. Soon, the people of Homestead start to change, duplicate bodies start appearing in the swamp and the town is divided into two groups: a new race led by sheriff Underlay (William Fictner) and the humans, of which Everglades park ranger Russell (Eddie Cibrian, "Third Watch") and his geeky, easily convinced sci-fi sidekick Dave (Tyler Labine), race to find out what is going on and put a stop to it. In a microcosm, the invasion rips apart the already tense mixed family that formed when Underlay married Russell's ex-wife (Kari Matchett, "Wonderfalls").

A season after it began, the exciting sci-fi serial fad of 2005 came to an end with the robust end of "Invasion". With every network offering a different version of the alien invasion storyline, it never occurred to them that the audience might get burned out or confused. "Invasion" wasn't as creepy or had the dynamic cast of "Threshold" and it wasn't the silly, rollicking thrill ride of "Surface", but it was a better serial show. It is also the best looking of the 3. Efficiently using a decent sized network budget "Invasion" brings to life the other-worldly villains with a deliciously sleek cinematic look, with the corner-cutting monster effect cheese and of the other two series kept to a bare minimum.

The story is not entirely new. Creator Shaun Cassidy takes "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" re-formats it for series length and replaces that film's fear of communism with the left of today's fear of Christian-driven oppression. Believers will even cut off their hand if they think God wants them too.

But it isn't the story that "Invasion" tells, but how Cassidy tells it that makes the show riveting in that pulp science fiction sort of way. "Invasion" inspires the imagination with a level of creativity that you rarely see on the network. Taking his cue from lead in, ABC's juggernaut "Lost", Cassidy has a mastered ability to methodically unfold the story over a season. "Invasion" gets better and better as each new detail to the depth of the invasion is dropped in our laps. Like all good serial shows, it is best not knowing any of the plot details about "Invasion" while entering. The journey is most of the fun.

Working with the format of serial television, Cassidy has the time to not only make the family dynamic rich (Underlay's daughter, Kira (Alexis Dziena) is secretly seeing a boy he believes to be a dangerous hybrid and Ariel Gade plays the latest cute-is-creepy little girl role to perfection) but, most interestingly, is the way he creates and delves into the details of the hybrid culture. I've never seen an alien invasion outlined so meticulously for us from the inside out. Cassidy spreads the motif of water throughout and we slowly see Underlay's master plan which will (intentional or inadvertently?) result in the hybrids integrating into society as authority figures, a secret island training ground as they prepare for a grass-roots war against the earthlings and a mass extermination of the unconverted.

The show actually finds its creepiest moments in more unexpected places: bodies standing at the bottom of a lake, a large bag of shotguns and a makeshift autopsy on a giant alligator. There is a clever episode in which Underlay is shot and we flashback to his first encounter with the lights in a plane crash.

How far does the invasion go? How deeply involved is Underlay? And will Russell and Dave be able to stop it in time? Some of these answers will be revealed. This was good stuff while it lasted and it is acted resoundingly well by a cast that doesn't seem to feel the genre is beneath them and gives it their all. An earnest effort at real, creative, character-driven sci-fi storytelling that is rarely rewarded by the audience or the network. So, I can whole heartedly recommend the show on the merit of the work that was done, but with the reservation for newcomers that ABC, in their infinite wisdom, canceled the show leaving us with a head-scratching cliffhanger and an incomplete story.

I love this show, and I hate it. I really like the suspense and the pace at which the story unfolds. HOWEVER... The whole thing with the children should be about 12 episodes shorter. No, pregnant women who are constantly nagging about the health of their fetus do NOT put on a rotting corpse's shoes while they have wounds on their own feet. They do not walk in when their ranger husband is paying a house call to some criminal etc etc. This has gone from boring to extremely irritating, every time Larkin walks in you know she's going to be nagging about something. She is the weakest link. I can imagine that if you only get one episode a week, this show would be very tedious. Again, I love the alien story line but the writers have killed their own show. If only all episodes had been as low on BS as the last few, this might have rocked.

I have watched Invasion from the first show .I hope they keep this show on,My friends and I look forward to invasion every Wednesday.Please don't replace this show with another show that is a copy of all the other shows on t.v. This is different and we love this show.you get so intence on the show for that Wednesday,and abc will skip invasion with another show that not so good.I check the t.v. guide every week and just when you think it's not going to be on t.v. anymore,it will come on for about three more weeks .Please don't keep us hanging on this show please put it back on every week.

Thank you for making a great series

I gave the pilot a chance (yes, only because it was RIGHT after LOST) and decided there was enough potential to give the show a month's worth of opportunity to involve me. The hour pilot, in and of itself, was pretty lack-luster, offering nothing new to the genre and plopping the viewer down in the middle of a series of family crises with little explanation as to why things are the way they are. The initial hurricane lasts about 15 minutes - with the most impressive visual moment really being the first shot or two of the hurricane plane. From then on follows a series of X-Files type moments - the floating lights seen only by the little girl, the discovery of two missing people found without clothes and seeming disoriented. the discovery of a strange and alien like skeleton . . . and at least one human character who clearly knows what is really going on.

In fact, the show's biggest obstacle is its familiarity. Rather than breaking new ground, it is now one of MANY new entries in this emerging genre of "Serial" drama - 24 had the luxury of being the first cliff-hanger driven prime-time show - LOST has the luxury of it's fantastically unique setting and plot - but INVASION? It is familiar ground - think X-FILES meets INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. And that is the obstacle it must overcome - if it is to survive, it needs to QUICKLY generate something unique - and so far, it has not. It's best asset HAS to be its characters - and none of them broke out of any stereotypical mode in the first hour. The writing was pretty transparent - the acting was serviceable.

Let's break it down: 1) A divorced father with two children (Hmmm . . . never seen that before!) 2) But wait, his ex-wife now remarried is also a lead character (oh wait, that's been done to death as well - doesn't ANYONE stay married on TV?) 3) Brother and Sister of the divorced couple, having to chose loyalties between the parents 4) TV News Anchor - hmmm . . . how many episodes till she "uncovers" some truth and becomes the target of a death plot? I give it three episodes to get to that point.

5) Saving the best for last - we have the "Conspiracy Theory" young adult male who "MAY JUST BE ON TO THE TRUTH THIS TIME!" Yep, it's THAT predictable folks! So, with an unimpressive list of characters and a well-traveled path to go down, I'm afraid the cards are stacked AGAINST this show - but, as I said, I will still give it a chance for the simple reason that you DO want to know what's going on with the three apparently "Body-Snatched" people - are they Pod People, have they been Possessed? If nothing else, it will be interesting to see which alien invasion movie they most copy.

At best, you can pretend it is an extended X-FILES episode, knowing that Mulder and Scully are out there on a different case right now, but they'll get here . . . someday?

Ever since the popularity of LOST, ABC has been trying to find another strange, prime-time, sci-fi series to fill the void. One of the better ones was Invasion. This show managed to last a full season, but just like V, Flash-Forward, Life On Mars, Persons Unknown, Surface, and so many others, it didn't last. Why not you may ask? The truth is that the network keeps using these great show ideas and either takes them off the air for months in order to air some lame reality show or in this case, they keep making it stranger and stranger until it's unwatchable. LOST was weird, that's what we loved about it, but that show was written by J.J. Abrams, not Shaun Cassidy. Some people can make weird work and some just can't! Invasion takes place in a small town bordering the Florida everglades, where a strange family dynamic is taking place. The Varon family has split up and the kids spend half the time with their father, Russell (Eddie Cibrian), a park ranger who is engaged to a local reporter, and their mother, Mariel, who is a Doctor and whom has remarried the town sheriff, who also has a daughter. Going back and fourth between fighting parents is hard enough, but in an area as dangerous as the everglades, it can be downright deadly. One night, a massive storm blows into town and people see strange lights in the sky and in the water. When things settle down, certain people are somehow different. Some, like Russell, are skeptical that anything happened, others like his brother-in-law to be, think the planet is under attack, but no one really knows what the truth is.

This is a modern version of invasion of the body snatchers and a much more subtle version at that. The series starts off with a bang and is definitely binge worthy, but then it hits a brick wall. I mean it is the same thing around and around for about ten episodes and it is ridiculously frustrating. Things finally get going again, and it just becomes weird, they jump back to story lines they haven't mentioned since the pilot, they investigate things they never mentioned before, the show is really kind of all over the place and it just gets worse.

Shows like this kill me, because it started out so good, the story was extremely promising, and best of all was the cast. William Fichtner best known for Prison Break and dozens of blockbuster films is one of my favorite actors, and he is amazing in this show, there are points in Invasion, where he keeps the whole thing together and I may have stopped watching, if I wasn't so interested in what his character was up to. Paired with Third Watch's hunky fireman, Eddie Cibrian, the pair make for perfect rivals and strange bedfellows, and oddly had terrific chemistry. Add veteran actress, Lisa Sheridan, and a sixteen year old future TV star named, Evan Peters, to the mix, and this cast was fantastic.

The bottom line is this show should have worked, it should have lasted, but ABC wanted it to be the next LOST. Someone kept messing with the story at the last minute, until the point that even the writers were confused about what they were doing, and things just fell apart. It's a shame, the first few episodes of this show were as good as it gets, while the last dozen or so were a struggle to get through.

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed this show and I am pretty angry it was dropped by ABC. I am at a loss as to why this show was not renewed that has millions of viewers watching in this country and millions more in other countries.I have already ordered a DVD set and so have many others.If you enjoyed this show then buy the DVD when it comes out in august. There are various groups on the Internet who are working to send letters and emails to ABC and the Sci-Fi Channel in the hopes that the show will come back for a second season. It is to bad that my favorite genre of science fiction has so many cool shows that have never been given the chance for "closure". ABC left us all with a real cliffhanger and we are angry we will never know where this cool and well done show would of gone.

Well.............now there is nothing I really have to watch on ABC Lost is not that important to me but Invasion was and still is.
