Ballet High is a unique window into the world of a group of typical teenagers leading far-from-typical teenage lives. This is the story of the graduating class of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division. Over the last seven years, it's been non-stop plies, jetés, pas de deuxs and pirouettes for these teens. But the stakes are high. After spending $150,000 on tuition and living most of their teenage years away from their families, they have this final year to prove that they have what it takes to become a professional dancer

The RWB School Professional Division offers a full-time seven-level dance training program beginning in September and running through mid-June. Students are trained in classical ballet based on the Russian School and work intensively in ballet technique, pointe, pas de deux and variations. As well, students receive a comprehensive education in creative movement, modern dance, improvisation, choreography, historical dance, character and Spanish. Students may also participate in First Steps (the School's choreographic competition) and have the opportunity to work as teaching assistants for the RWBS Recreational Division. Professional skills are developed and honed throughout the year at school performances and full-length RWB Company productions. RWB School is committed to supporting the academic education of its students. For those students in academic grades 6 through 12, daily dance classes are accompanied by integrated academic studies in select Winnipeg Schools. The RWB School has become one of the most respected training institutions worldwide for talented students aspiring to become dance professionals.

Usually it takes approximately 7-8 years training to become a professional dancer. Ideally a young man or woman would start at the age of 11 to graduate and be ready for the profession by the age of 18 or 19.

The RWB School Residence provides permanent housing during the school year for students between the ages of 10 and 18

The RWB School Aspirant Program is a unique, intensive training program designed specifically for advanced level classical ballet dancers who are making the transition from student to professional dancer.

80% of RWB graduates (including Professional Division grads and Teacher Training Program grads) get jobs in dance professions (either as dancers, teachers, or choreographers).
