Mom's genetic engineering lab, Momsanto, is a clear reference to the multinational corporation Monsanto. The company was one of the first to genetically modify crops and seeds, a controversial practice alluded to by both Mom and Leela.

The crew goes to a western bar called TEX 1138's, which is a clear reference to the Lucas film THX 1138. In fact one of the bar workers has a shaved head and ear tags like in the movie.

It's learned that Leela, being a mutant, occasionally lays an egg.

When she arrives on the cloud, Leela says: "It's some kind of deluxe apartment in the sky", which is a line in the theme song from The Jeffersons.

It's learned that the human population of Earth is 40 billion.

As they are climbing Leela's "hair", Fry and Bender cross paths with Adam West and Burt Ward, who played Batman and Robin, respectively. The entire scene is a parody of a similar recurring campy scene featured throughout the original 1960s Batman series: Batman and Robin would be scaling a wall (literally "walking" up the wall) and a window would open and some random celebrity would have a brief cameo.

As Leela is cleaning out her locker, a jersey is visible with the number 7/8 on the back. This is her jersey from her time spent as a pitcher (aka The One-Eyed Bean Machine) for the New New York Mets, as shown in the episode "A Leela of Her Own" (2002).

Bender is credited with setting a bucking mechanical buggalo record for "shortest ride" with 0.04 seconds. Moments later, Professor Farnsworth ties the new record with the exact same time as Bender (before being bucked off, and floating like a feather back to Earth).

In this Episode of Futurama, Finn The Human and Jake The Dog from Adventure Time make a Short appearance.

At the end of the episode where the bean stalk is taking over the city there's a crosswalk signal showing a red hand giving the Vulcan 'Live Long and Prosper' sign.
