The scene with Dane Cook is based on a real conflict that he and C.K. had. Cook was publicly accused of plagiarizing jokes from C.K. The conflict was never fully resolved. C.K. learned that Cook wanted to appear on the series through mutual friend Robert Kelly.

When Louis C.K. presented the screenplay to Dane Cook, he had some doubts about it and wanted to make some changes but C.K. refused and tell him, half joking half for real, that he was going to do the scene with him or with an actor playing him.

According to C.K., the scene with Dane Cook was originally supposed to take place at the Carolines comedy club where Louie is often shown performing. Cook suggested that the scene take place at Madison Square Garden and that Louie would be overwhelmed by Cook's success. C.K. angrily refused to change it and accused Cook of being megalomaniacal. But producer Vernon Chatman convinced C.K. that the scene would be funnier using Cook's suggestion.

The "Tickets" segment was originally titled "Lady Gaga". The original premise was that Louie would go to a Lady Gaga concert with his daughter and realize that he underestimated her talent. But C.K. was unable to get in contact with Gaga so the ending was changed.

The "Oh Louie" segment is based on C.K.'s experience on Saint Louie (2004).
