Choir Tour (2012) Online

A world-famous boys' choir goes on a tour. In the hands of their severe conductor they are an obedient musical instrument. But left alone without supervision, they are just playful children. Once in Seoul the conductor is accidentally trapped in the elevator, and the boys are left alone.

An all boy choir go on a tour to Seoul in South Korea and, when they become separated from their teacher, get up to all sorts of mischief in and around the hotel.

As an animated piece, this is a very nicely constructed thing to watch as it provides plenty of movement but also presents the characters in a very pleasing manner. I particular enjoyed the composition of the choir itself, which was animated faces within a fluid black shape – which, if you have ever tried to supervise any sort of unruly group, you will know how well this is represented by this animation. The rest of the short is one of movement of this mass, while the teacher tries to get it back under control, however to speak of the animation is isolation is to miss the fact that the film never is like this – because really it is the combination with the music and sound design that makes it work.

Early on the sound engineering is clear to see (if you know what I mean) and I enjoyed the experience of hearing the sounds move from my perception, moving with the characters and their movement, and generally having a light engaging style to it. The music and sound from Ģirts Bišs is really what makes the film work, and the soundtrack moves well with great provision by the actual boys choir which recorded it. This is not to say that one aspect of the film makes the other work, but rather that they both come together to create a whole that is better as a result. It is a simple yet pleasing short which is a great marriage of the audible and visual.
