Unemployed family man Neil Lester is battered to death with a paper-weight in his own home, having convinced his wife that he has been working for the past nine months. Sixteen thousand pounds were put into his bank account, apparently by pensioner Eddie Stewart, whose friend Felix pawned Neil's computer recently. Eddie's prints are also found at Neil's house and he is charged with murder. Eddie's daughter turns out to be Ronnie's old boss Natalie and, behind the prosecutors' backs, they try to gather evidence to prove his innocence, not helped by Natalie's filial outbursts in court. They find out that Neil impersonated Eddie to secure a loan, leading to a confrontation. But did that confrontation lead to murder?

By coincidence a bus drives by with a promo for the movie "Identity Thief" when DS Brooks and DS Hawkins are in front of "Jimmy's Gents Hair Stylist": essentially a nod to the plot.

A family man was found dead in his hometown by his wife (Laura Rogers). She was about to celebrate their son's birthday in a party together with other children. She stated her husband worked in a IT department downtown, but he was actually unemployed, having lost his job several months before (despite every morning she kept on carrying him in the workplace). His laptop went missing from his desk, a computer just pawned by a pensioner whose fingerprints were found at the crime scene. The old man is an upstanding member of society and former war veteran, living off a fellow ex-paratrooper who tries to hid him in his apartment. The suspect had just got a loan against his house, transferring shortly after all the money to the victim bank account. What's really lied beneath this strange wire transfer? Maybe a fraud?
